Power Window 2

2 months ago, I realized that my passenger side power window is not functioning and due to some reason, I never got it fixed. When my car was in the workshop for the front brakes transplant, I had it fixed and now it is fine and working. However, when my mechanic open up the door and checked the problem, he found out something about my car.

Apparently, there was a lock mechanism to prevent the window to actually function which surprises the mechanic when I told him it was working just fine. He took out the lock and replace the faulty motor and now it works. The second discovery is the rubber that prevents the window to over raise is teared. As the door has no frame, without the rubber it will rise to high and I can't close the door when I open it.

Now, I have adjusted the window to the right height and use the window lock button the make the window stay. I try to reduce the usage of the passenger window as the adjustment would be troublesome. Hope to find replacement part that would be hard as they don't make this car anymore and not much half cut have this part.

Project Update Part.3

It has been a week since I brought my Celica home after the front brake transplant. The electrical problems caused by a loose connector is solved and I have gotten to know my new brakes a little more and these are the problems.

Problem No.1
As there is no machining of the brake rotors, it is very big and the 4 pot calipers grips very well. This causes the ECU to always perceive that the wheels are about to lock and causes the ABS to kick in. When it kicks in only at low speed and during jam, the ABS motor will screech as it is working 4 times more than previously.

Problem No.2
The original location of the ABS sensor is below the rotors facing upward but because I'm using the ST205 knuckles, the ABS sensor is now above the rotors facing downward. If the car is still or driving under 140 km/h, there would not be a problem but when I drive above 160 km/h, the ABS signal would light up and disable the ABS. This is later found to be caused by the sensor sensing metal is blocking the signal as the sensor is magnetic.

Problem No.3
The 4 pots calipers are 3.9 kg each and the rotor size is 315 mm x 32 mm. The weight of the rotors are unknown but it is not light. All this weight makes the steering seem slightly heavy when you are parking or just rolling.

At the end of the day, the screeching problem (No.1) can be solved with some practice and getting used to but the ABS problem (No.2) always repeat (already twice) and need to discuss with the mechanic. Whether the ABS is working or not, the 4 pots big brakes are working like a charm and I love it. Only when it is working and the screeching really annoys me.

I also changed the Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) as it was as black as engine oil and it is not healthy. After brand new red color ATF was in, my manual mode gear shifting becomes smoother especially from 3rd gear to 4th gear and I could rev faster. So, the extra weight does not bother me at all.
My main concern is the ABS sensor and the weight of rear brakes when it is installed. I hope nothing goes wrong. Stay tune for more updates when it happens.

BTW, my lower arm bushing is starting to forsaken me. Gotta look for new ones.

Biggest Car Gathering

In conjunction with the 2011 Super GT Round 3, the organizers planned a record breaking attempt to gather the most number of Performance/Super Cars and my club the Celica Club Malaysia managed to get invited to participate. All participants were given 4 ticket for free and I invited some friends to watch the event. I also helped my friend registered his Nissan Fairlady 350z to get extra tickets.

In the morning of the gathering, I gathered with my members and we convoyed to the circuit together. When we reached, we entered the circuit and park by the side of the track to wait for our clearance to drive out. Soon, we all drove out on the track to line our cars. After we arranged our cars, we were given the opportunity to visit the pits where they fix and tune the GT cars.

It was an exciting and great experience especially the drive on the track. I hope I can do this again. Here are some shots from the gathering. I regret to say that there was an accident that took place because of the gathering.

Carnival

Besides the Super GT races, there is also a carnival where many cars are on display and many companies setting booths to sell or promote their products. I got some freebies like free calendar poster, free magazine and some stickers. It was the entertainment for when there are no races happening especially with the stage where bands were playing and the pageant was held. I took my time walking under the hot weather to go through all exhibits and booths. During the first day, I joined my friend's Fairlady Z club as my members can't make it. Here are some photos from the carnival and my hang out with Fairlady Z club.
